Working at Children's Hospital

As a nurse at the Children's Hospital of Western Ontario, you will quickly discover that we care for our children not simply as miniature adults. Whether our patient is a tiny newborn or a lanky teenager, they receive special care from special nurses.

Children's Hospital of Western Ontario is a regional tertiary care facility with over 70 beds providing the full range of specialized paediatric services. Over 50% of our patients come from Southwestern Ontario and across Canada to our many specialty areas, including: critical care, oncology, genetics, diabetes, surgery, cardiac care and neurology.

Our approach to caring for children is simple - make every child's stay as unthreatening as possible. Our interdisciplinary teams include social workers, psychologists, dieticians, child life specialists, and art therapists just to name a few. Playrooms and classrooms, a library and a full Child Life program provide an escape from the medical routines of a hospital stay. We consider the family as central to the care of their child and encourage family members to participate in treatment. Families can visit 24 hours per day and can either room-in or stay at Ronald McDonald House located on hospital property.

Nurses are able to seek support from specialty nurse practitioners in an environment that is supportive of their development and growth as professional nurses.
