Paediatric Medical Day Unit
The Paediatric Medical Day Unit (PMDU) provides services for procedures
which require brief hospitalizations without an overnight stay. As well,
the PMDU is home to a number of Paediatric ambulatory clinics.

Monday to Friday: 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (closed holidays)

Purpose:
- To provide excellent family centred care
- To provide a comfortable environment for children and their families
- To provide a team approach to care provided for the families who
use our services
Who will use the PMDU?
Any child requiring the following:
- Blood work
- Procedure/Tests requiring sedation i.e. CT scan, MRI, Heart Catheterization
etc.
- General Procedures i.e. Biopsy, Catheterization
- Treatments i.e. Chemotherapy, Blood Transfusions etc.
- Intravenous Access for contrast studies
- Patient Teaching related to medical conditions i.e. Diabetes
The following Pediatric Ambulatory Care Clinics:
- Cystic Fibrosis
- Nephrology
- Pre-admit
- Diabetes
- Enuresis
- Gastroenterology
- Clinical Neuroscience/Neurosurgery
- Gynaecology
- Endocrinology
- Rheumatology
- Oncology
What Can You Expect?
- Your visit will begin by arriving at the Children's Hospital, Baseline
Road entrance "Zone E" formerly known as the "Westminister
Tower" and taking the elevators to the Fourth Floor.
- You will report to the desk in the elevator corridor where you will
be greeted by a Unit Clerk who will register your child.
Please have the patient's Ontario Health Card and London Health Sciences
card with you.
- A comfortable waiting room with a few toys, games and books for children,
as well as reading material for parents is available. For your convenience,
a fridge and microwave are also available. Our cafeteria is located
on Level 3 Tower 1, as well as a Tim Hortons on Level 2 Tower 1.
- A Child Life Room staffed with Child Life Specialists who integrate
emotional support and preparation for procedures into play is also available
to help minimize the stress of the hospital experience.
- An Art Therapy Room staffed by a certified Art Therapist is also available
to provide emotional support and minimize the stress of the hospital
experience.
- We suggest that your child bring a familiar toy/game from home as
well as food/beverages that may help during waiting times.
- In preparation for scheduled appointments, Blood work and/or x-rays
may be necessary.
- You may be seen by any of the following Health Care Professionals:
Nurse Clinician, Dietician, Doctor, Psychologist, Social Worker, Child
Life Specialist, Art Therapist, Volunteer.
